SV Redevelopment Plan, A Ship Without A Rudder?
BUSINESS AND PROPERTY STAKEHOLDRS’ PUBLIC RESPONSE TO REDEVELOPMENT PLAN…
ANGER AND FRUSTRATION.
Council To Vote On “Blighted” District Plan For West End
by Chuck Alton, KCTRNews.com
Property and business owners from Coronado to Buffalo Soldier Trail met SV City staffer at Kino Hall and showed displeasure and impatience with the City’s proposal to declare the Fry strip between those two streets, the closet thing to a downtown in Sierra Vista, a “blighted” district to make it legal to give public money to private entities for an indeterminate period of time.
The stakeholder pushback came as a result of the better healed property owners’ resentment to being lumped in with older less attended properties that the City says comprise most of the proposed district.
On the scene for last Wednesday’s public introduction of the plan at Kino Hall on Taylor Drive, KCTRNews talked to Council person Rachel Grey and three property/business owners to see how they saw the negativity expressed at the meeting having an impact on the project moving forward, if at all.
The proposal would seem to lack imagination and leadership. Listen to the Chuck Alton Show for March 10th, then let me know what you think about it all. There may well be better ideas for moving forward.
